PETER COSTER, Ph. D., MDiv. MFC # 24853

Clinical Director and Supervisor to all interns

I have twenty years experience in the helping professions working with a diverse population of adults, families and couples undergoing mid life transitions, relationship issues and existential identity crisis. I work within a spiritually informed contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy perspective and draw upon Jungian, Existential, Relational and Cognitive Behavior orientations.
I am trained in pastoral counseling and psychotherapy and have a special interest in helping people discover a healthy spirituality that is free from shame, guilt and fear. I have been leading retreats for Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families for ten years and have experience with addictions and addiction recovery. I have worked with many folks who combine 12 step work with individual psychotherapy.

I enjoy working with survivors of emotional, sexual or physical abuse, as well as those who have suffered from emotional neglect who struggle with issues of intimacy, isolation, depression, guilt and shame.

I have been teaching, supervising and mentoring psychotherapists for over 10 years and currently I am a clinical supervisor at the John F. Kennedy Center for Holistic Counseling in Oakland.
